WorldatWork Statement on the Proposed Nomination of Labor Secretary

Dec. 8, 2016 — WASHINGTON, D.C. — Cara Woodson Welch, WorldatWork vice president of external affairs and practice leadership issued the following statement in response to President-Elect Donald Trumpâs nomination of Andrew "Andy" Puzder, CEO of CKE Restaurants for Secretary of Labor:

"The nomination of Mr. Puzder as Secretary of Labor indicates that the next administration will likely focus on reducing regulations regarding federal workplace public policy issues. Puzderâs background as a successful CEO of a major restaurant chain may help him as he begins to determine the priorities for the Department of Labor over the next four years.

"WorldatWork urges Puzder and the incoming Trump administration to prioritize providing clarity to America's compensation practitioners on the overtime regulations. The regulations, finalized by the Department of Labor in July and now put on hold by the temporary injunction, were troublesome for many organizations. However, limbo and uncertainty on the rules also will create complications for workplaces across the country. We hope under Puzderâs leadership that the overtime regulations will be addressed.

"WorldatWork stands ready to work with Puzder and the Department of Labor. We look forward to offering our expertise and assistance on total rewards and workplace issues as we advocate for our members interests in Washington."
