Feb. 28, 2017 — WASHINGTON, D.C. — Cara Woodson Welch, vice president of external affairs and practice leadership at WorldatWork, a nonprofit human resources association, issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump's address to the joint session of Congress:
"It's time for our elected leaders in Washington to work together for the good of the American workforce. Washington needs to act now to promote pay transparency, protect employer-sponsored health care, clarify rules that address overtime pay, and repeal executive compensation regulations that fail to deliver real value and instead cause unneeded and expensive compliance burdens.
"It's also long overdue, but we as a country must address the crisis surrounding the cost workers face to pay for child care or an ailing parent or loved one. Congress should re-examine and increase the 30-year-old limit of $5,000 for dependent-care flexible spending accounts.
"Some of these issues were mentioned in tonight's speech, and we welcome future discussions on improving workplace public policies. WorldatWork is closely tracking legislation that reflects these priorities and calls on Congress and President Trump to act together swiftly to enact these necessary changes."
